Why to Avoid Drinking Sodas and Eating Sweets

We all know that drinking soda and eating sugar isn't good for us. The effects of sugar and soda go way beyond adverse calories. Added sugar is so unhealthy that it is probably the single worst ingredient in our present diet. Did you know, the average American drinks around 56 gallons of soda a year? Some of them even accept that they drink more soda than water every day or no water at all. Excess sugar is also linked to many serious diseases.

  1. Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners: As you know many people choose soda for the artificial sugar to lower their caloric consumption. Artificial sugars are linked to numerous diseases including cancer. After some time, it can lead to diabetes or insulin resistance, not to mention weight gain and other health problems. Makers of soft drinks and energy drinks are the highest users of sugar in the country.
  2. The acid in sodas affect the dental enamel: Lab testing on soda acidity shows that the amount of acid in soda is enough to affect your dental enamel. Consuming sodas and sweets destroy your teeth. Drinking soda frequently causes plaque to build up on the teeth and can lead to cavities and gum disease.
  3. Soda contains high amounts of sugar: The average 12 ounce can of soda has the equivalent of 6 teaspoons of sugar; it’s not hard to see that soda can be harmful to your teeth and your overall health.
  4. Sodas and sweets increase the risk for diabetes: High levels of sugar in soda places a lot of stress on your stomach, possibly leaving it unable to keep up with the body’s need for insulin. Drinking one or two sugary drinks per day increases your risk of diabetes.
  5. Soda dehydrates your body: When the body’s cells are dehydrated they have difficulty consuming nutrients, and it also makes it more difficult for the body to eliminate waste.
  6. Soda increases the risk of obesity in children: Each supplementary soda or other sugary drink consumed per day increases the possibility of a child becoming overweight. Sugary drinks are connected to other health and dental problems as well.
  7. Soda increases heart disease: Each soda consumed per day increases the risk of heart disease. The health results of drinking soda are numerous, but some are less noticeable than others. The study explained that just one sweet beverage per day may significantly increase the risk of heart attacks.
  8. More consumption of sodas and sweets increase the fat: Artificial sweeteners in diet soda and sugar in sugary sodas lead to an increase in the level of triglycerides in the blood. It also leads to deposition of fat in organs such as the liver. This further leads to insulin immunity and diabetes.

Sodas and sweets may taste good and it sure seems to have some addictive properties, but the bottom line is that these aren’t healthy in any amount and there is absolutely no reason or justification for consuming them.
